WELCOME TO RAVENS – #WE23

WELCOME!

To open our new blog, we’d like to jump head on straight into what we see as core to everything we stand for as a Womens NPL Football Club. Empowering young women through football.

For the last few weeks many of you may have seen the #WE23 tag on all the Ravens social media posts. You also may have seen our very brief introduction and teaser to the #WE23 concept on the socials too. Essentially, #WE23 is a project that focuses our desire to use the Womens World Cup, that arrives on our shores in 2023, to help drive awareness of gender equality in football in our own local environment.

The #WE23 hastag is multi layered in its meaning. The letters WE were used highlight our connection to Japanese womens football, who this year have announced their very first fully professional womens football league, called the WE league that kicks off in October 2021. The word WE also indicates togetherness and a collective feeling, something we work hard to harbor in the Ravens community. Finally, when separated and given individual meaning, Womens Empowerment has a very bold and strong meaning.

So what does #WE23 mean to us. It means that we want to ensure our girls are getting EXACTLY the same opportunities as our male counterparts. Access to the same training ground facilities, and to be considered as important when given allocations, not just fitted in at the end. Access to coaching and leadership opportunities, being included on committees and focus groups. Essentially, its means we are telling our girls, the game is for EVERYONE, so its your responsibility to look after it, to grow it.

#WE23 will continue to be a key driver for all our activities in the coming years as we strive for the best opportunities for our young local girls.
